The new gravel pathway west of 19th Street in Morden is receiving some unwanted traffic. It was built earlier this Fall to provide city residents and students a way to walk from Wardrop and Manchester Streets, as well as Dublin Drive, to Ecole Discovery Trails, ultimately connecting with Park Hill Drive.

Mayor Nancy Penner says the city has received reports of motorized vehicles utilizing the walking path.

"We've been getting reports of of vehicles driving on that gravel pathway, so we're letting our city staff know," noted the Mayor. "I'm not sure what kind of barricades we're going to have to put up to deter access of motor vehicles driving on that path. I'd just like people to be aware it is not a vehicle pathway. It is for bikes and children to walk on to get to and from school safely, and vehicle traffic is not allowed on that gravel pathway."

Penner drew attention to another new pathway in the city during today's In the Mayor's Chair, located near Lakeside Cemetery.

"It's fall time of year, and it's always nice to go for a walk," she started. "On the east side of the lake, we do have a new walking path up there. It's a bark chip path, and it's about a 20 to 30 minute walk. It takes you through some pastures, some bush area and it's just a beautiful trail the city has newly developed, so I encourage everybody to go for a walk up there."

Penner added the City is considering turning this path into ski trails in winter.
