The Brandon Wheat Kings begin a five-game homestand tonight when they meet the Spokane Chiefs at Westoba Place. The Wheat Kings have recalled Prabh Bhathal from the Winnipeg Thrashers and Raiden Zacharias from the Melville Millionaires. Both are expected to play against the Chiefs.
The Professional Women's Hockey League has unveiled its schedule for its second season. The Toronto Sceptres host the Boston Fleet and the Montreal Victoire welcome the Ottawa Charge when the season opens on November 30th. The defending champion Minnesota Frost host the New York Sirens the following night. Each team will play 30 regular-season games, up from 24 in the PWHL's inaugural campaign.
Brendan Bottcher has replaced the recently departed EJ Harnden at second for Brad Gushue's curling team. Bottcher will make his debut with Gushue, third Mark Nichols and lead Geoff Walker at the Pan Continental championship in Lacombe, Alberta later this month. Bottcher, who skipped Alberta to a Canadian championship in 2021, was let go by his team of Marc Kennedy, Brett Gallant and Ben Hebert at the end of last season and was replaced by Brad Jacobs.
Canada's Shaun Meachem along with vice-skip Kelly Schafer, second Chris Haichert and lead Teejay Haichert lead Group A with a 4-0 round robin record heading into day five at the 2024 World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Jonathan David scored in the 87th minute to lift Canada to a 2-1 victory over Panama in an international men's soccer friendly at BMO Field in Toronto. Cyle Larin scored in the 44th minute to give Canada a 1-0 lead, but the visitors pressed on and got a goal from Jose Fajardo in the 69th minute to tie it 1-1. The match was the first on home soil for Canadian head coach Jesse Marsch.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released American offensive lineman Jake Hornibrook, American defensive back Russell Dandy and American receiver Penny Hart from the practice roster. The Bombers are on the bye week and will play their regular season finale Saturday, October 26th against the Alouettes in Montreal.
