Tips to keep your pets safe from antifreeze

Oldman winter is fast approaching, and drivers will soon be breaking out the antifreeze to combat the extreme temperatures.

The Animal Care Centre of Strathmore has provided tips on how to keep pets safe from antifreeze.

Staff say antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, which is toxic to pets.

According to the centre, pet owners can keep their furry friends safe through the methods below:

• Store antifreeze in locked spaces that pets can't access.
• Clean up spills immediately as pets could lick them up and die.
• Trying to find antifreeze alternatives that are labeled as pet-safe.
• If a pet has drank antifreeze, bring them to the vet immediately. Symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, and increased thirst.
