The City of Winkler recently launched an Accessibility Survey asking the city residents to help them shape a more inclusive environment as part of the city’s requirement to update the city’s accessibility plan biannually.
Wendy Klassen — the Assistant City Manager, helped to illuminate the importance of the survey and community input to ensure the municipality adheres to the guidelines set forth by Accessibility Manitoba.
Purpose of the Survey
For Klassen, gathering community input on the subject is crucial in planning for the future.
“We know what we think is important in terms of accessibility based on our knowledge, but we always want to have community input to say what’s not working for you and what would you like to see that is different.”
Who Can Participate?
The Accessibility Survey is open not only to individuals who experience accessibility challenges — but also to family members and caregivers of those affected.
Klassen encourages participation, noting that, “It’s not just for people that face barriers... also those that have family members or people that they care for. Any community member can fill out the form.”
