Provincial Crown Prosecutor Rob Parker has rejected a plea deal proposed by Ryan Milne’s defence counsel.
Milne’s lawyer, Lucas Richards, appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court via telephone on Wednesday, with Milne appearing via video from remand.
Richards told the court that the proposal for a resolution was rejected and asked to set a date for elections and pleas. Because it is an indictable offence, the defence can elect trial by provincial court judge, trial by Court of King’s Bench judge only, or trial in Court of King’s Bench by judge and jury.
Because they may need to set dates for a preliminary inquiry, Parker recommended, and Richards agreed with, adjourning the matter to Oct. 23.
Milne was arrested on May 30 after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Thatcher Drive and Highway 1. It’s alleged that the driver of one of the pickup trucks deliberately rear-ended the other vehicle at a high rate of speed. It’s also alleged that Milne attempted to assault the other driver with a baseball bat.
