The City of Morden continues to work on finding a sustainable and affordable solution to its composting needs after the recent closure of its former provider, Enviro Clean. Mayor Nancy Penner says city staff are working hard at finding a new curbside compost pick-up provider.

The company's decision to cease operations was announced at the end of July, with it citing challenges in the aftermarket for compost and difficulties in achieving cost recovery as the primary reasons for the closure.

"With Enviro Clean closing its doors. we're still encouraging everyone to compost," said Penner. "Any big yard waste you can still take it to the City compost site."

In addition to that, residents are urged to continue the routine of placing kitchen waste into the green bins provided, even though there is no curbside pick-up currently.

"This will help maintain our community's routine of composting, and ensure we keep moving towards our sustainability objectives," stated a news release issued by the city last week.

"We are looking for a permanent solution for our compost," stressed the Mayor. "Keep composting like you normally do, and we will have a permanent solution, hopefully, in the near future that we'll be able to announce."

Enviro Clean's closure has impacted a number of area communities, and in the news release, the city indicated that's made the process of finding a solution more complex while also requiring careful consideration and planning.
