Humboldt and area cooperatives are teaming up for a great cause this fall.
Eight locations will be working together to fill a semi-trailer with food bound for the Humboldt and Lanigan Food Banks. The Fill the Semi campaign kicked off on October 13 and goes to October 31.
The Humboldt Co-op Muenster Co-op Grocery and Gas Bar, Lenore Lenore Co-op Grocery and Greenhouse, Midway Co-op, Conexus Credit Union (Humboldt), Affinity Credit Union (Humboldt), Prairie Centre Credit Union in LeRoy, and St. Gregor Credit Union are all drop off points for non-perishable food items.
“We’re trying to fill the semi with dry goods,” says Humboldt Co-op General Manager. “For every 10,000 pounds of dry goods that are donated, the eight of us are going together and throw in $10,000 cash. That cash will go to the Food Banks as well to help with the purchase of perishable products.
Fall, winter, and the Christmas season are particularly high use times for food banks, so now is a great time to pick up some extra food items and drop them off to one of the listed locations.
Thanks to the combined efforts of area Co-ops and Credit Unions, the shelves will hopefully be filled at both the Humboldt Food Bank and the Lanigan Food Bank.
