An exciting new chapter in the Prairie Fusion Arts and Entertainment Centre was celebrated on Wednesday night with the grand opening of the Rona Gift Boutique. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Sharilyn Knox, community members, artists, and local business representatives.
Executive Director Lorna Knight, expressed her excitement about the new space, highlighting its potential to better showcase local artwork.
"We have always had a gift shop but moving it to this new location allows us to highlight the beautiful creations of our local artists."
The boutique will not only feature paintings and sculptures but also an array of handmade items, including dream catchers, pottery, jewelry, candles, and more.
The Rona Gift Boutique aims to provide a platform for local artists to sell their work without the overhead costs associated with running their own storefronts.
"We encourage artists to bring in samples of their work and meet with us. If it fits well with what we already have, we’d love to support them by providing a space to sell their creations."
Mayor Sharilyn Knox, a local advocate for the arts, praised the boutique's role in fostering community engagement.
"The Rona Gift Boutique is a wonderful place for makers to showcase their work and for visitors to find unique gifts."
Knox emphasized the importance of supporting local initiatives, noting that Prairie Fusion serves as a cultural hub for Portage la Prairie.
Josh McPhail, president and owner of Rona, reflected on the collaboration, stating that their support for the arts is a continuation of their commitment to community initiatives.
"This partnership enhances our connection to Portage la Prairie, a community that has welcomed us warmly."
The boutique is open Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and Thursday from 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., inviting residents and tourists alike to explore the diverse offerings and support local artisans.
