Every Fall season the Rotary Club of Brandon #1344 facilitates one student from the Westman Region to attend the Canadian Western Agribition Livestock Show and Sale in Regina at the end of November through the Adventures in Agriculture program.

Grade 11 and 12 students from across Canada have the opportunity to visit Agribition, tour major agriculture-based industries and participate in info sessions conducted by ag industry professionals and business leaders.  Adventures in Agriculture is designed to broaden knowledge and understanding of the multi-faced ag sector, environmental issues, and the challenge of food sustainability around the globe in senior high school students as they plan future post-secondary education and career paths.

The Rotary Club of Brandon is calling out for more applications from Grades 11 and 12 students from across Westman, with that deadline coming up quickly, November 5th.

The Rotary Club of Brandon will pay for the registration of the student chosen to participate in the program, and they are billeted to stay in a member of the Rotary Club in Regina while they are at the Agribition," explains Youth Director for the Brandon Club, Cheryl Winger.

The Canadian Western Agribition Livestock Show and Sale takes place November 25-30, 2024 in Regina. The Brandon Club partners with the Rotary Club of Regina Eastview to set up the program including travel to and from the Agribition site as well as all billeting details.

The program is offered to students who have an enthusiasm to learn about agriculture and its varied career opportunities, says Winger. "The students can participate in everything there is to offer, including meetings and presentations that are specific to them."

Winger says attending the Regina Agribition opens up the world to the many facets of agriculture in today's world. "It's not just the farmer going out to plant seeds and to harvest in the Fall anymore. That whole world is so much bigger now, and farming is critical to all of us."

"Every student who has gone has really presented well when they came home.  They were very excited for the experience," shares Winger. "One student had said 'I just can't believe there are so many jobs in agriculture!'"
