A male is facing a mischief charge, and was also arrested under the Intoxicated Persons Detention Act after a Thursday night incident in Winkler.
Police Chief Ryan Hunt says around 10:15 p.m. both officers and Winkler Fire Department responded to the 200 block of 6th Street for a report of a male starting a piece of clothing on fire in the backyard of the property. The fire was quickly extinguished, and police noted a basket of female clothes nearby.
The male at the residence told police he was burning the clothes of a female he had an argument with earlier. Police had been at the same address approximately one hour earlier, and assisted a female with retrieving some of her belongings as she was leaving for the night.
The male was arrested for mischief, and during that process officers noted he was intoxicated, which led to him being detained until sober. He was later released on an Appearance Notice, with a court date for Morden Provincial Court, to deal with the mischief charge.
There was no damage to the building on the property, and no injuries to any person.
