The Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders and Vincent Massey Vikings were winners in the Westman High School Hockey League Sunday in Brandon. Neilan Slater had a goal and two assists as the Raiders defeated Crocus Plains 5-2. Jesse Wilton, Aubrey Cuvelier and Kaleb Friesen also scored for the Raiders. Drayden Murray had both goals for the Plainsmen. Joey Leblanc had a hat trick and Josh Romanik chipped in with two goals and four assists as the defending champion Vikings blanked the Major Pratt Trojans 12-0. Landon McGregor made 17 saves in recording the shutout. Trojans netminder Brandon Wasilka faced 75 shots. 


Jack Swaenepoel had two goals and an assist as the Southwest Cougars downed the Central Plains Capitals 6-2 at the Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex. Eric Berger, Shane Elder, Bryan Laing and Connor Hoemsen also scored for the Cougars who have won six of their last seven games. Brodie Cameron made 25 saves in net for Southwest. 


The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 5-2 decision to the Portage Terriers at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Rhett Platt and Maxx Hamelin scored for the Caps who trailed 1-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks. Hamelin's fourth of the season on the power play 7:12 into the third period cut the Terriers lead to 3-2. Portage pulled away when Cameron Bullinger and Jacob Michelson scored 25 seconds apart midway through the final frame.


The Winnipeg Jets are still perfect. Eric Comrie made 39 saves in his first start of the season as Winnipeg defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 at Canada Life Centre. Adam Lowry, Mason Appleton, Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, Vladislav Namestnikov and Nino Niederreiter into an empty net did the goal scoring for the Jets (5-0-0) who are the only undefeated team in the National Hockey League. 


Aaron Cockerill fired rounds of 71-69-71-71 and finished tied for 43rd place at the DP World Tour’s 2024 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters in Spain. The Stony Mountain native is in 46th spot in the Race to Dubai rankings. Julien Guerrier won the tournament as he beat Jorge Campillo in a nine-hole play-off.
