Local boy, Brady Holtvogt suited up for his first career SJHL start in his hometown arena and turned aside all 30 shots faced picking up his first career win in a 1-0 shutout victory for the Broncos over the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Saturday.
In the same building where he played the majority of his minor hockey career growing up, Holtvogt was the crowd favourite all night long, increasingly amplifying the EPA audience’s cheers with every save he made through the 60 minutes.
Holtvogt played his minor hockey in Humboldt all the way until his U18 AAA season where he joined the Prince Albert Mintos. The 2007-born netminder made one appearance for the Broncos in the final game of the regular season back in the 2022-23 campaign. Saturday’s effort marked the first time a 17-year-old goalie secured an SJHL shutout in two years.
Logan Falk was credited with the loss for the Ice Wolves, but was spectacular in his own right, stopping 33 of 34 shots faced.
The Broncos secured their lone goal on the powerplay thanks to Boris Kofman and his 4th goal of the season. The goal also extended the point streaks of Kofman and Kye Benoche to 5 and 6 games, respectively.
Humboldt penalty kill, which entered the game at a league-worst 73.5%, was outstanding, shutting down all seven of the Ice Wolves
The Broncos will face their toughest test yet as they welcome in the Weyburn Red Wings, who have won seven games in a row, on Tuesday night.
