Three Manitoba Junior Hockey League teams are in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20 Rankings. The Selkirk Steelers (11-3) have dropped from number three to number nine. The Steinbach Pistons (7-2-1) fell from nine to 12. The defending Turnbull Cup champion Winkler Flyers (7-3), who were unranked last week, are number 13. The Central Canada Hockey League's Rockland Nationals (12-0) remain the number one ranked team in the country. 


The Winnipeg Jets, who are a franchise record 5-0-0 to start the season, begin a three-game road trip tonight when they face the St. Louis Blues. It's one of 16 games on the NHL's Frozen Frenzy schedule as all 32 teams are in action tonight.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes will open the 2025 American Association season on Thursday, May 8th on the road against the Cleburne Railroaders. The Fish will play their home-opener Tuesday, May 20th against the Milwaukee Milkmen. For a fourth straight season, the American Association playoff format includes eight teams. The top four clubs (by winning percentage) in each division qualify for the postseason. A best-of-three Division Series will be followed by the Division Championship Series – now a best-of-five – within each division to determine the participants in the best-of-five Miles Wolff Cup Final. The 2025 American Association playoffs are scheduled to begin Wednesday, September 3rd.


The Carman Cougars defeated the Pembina Tigers 4-3 in the final of the Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur Wildcats Pre-Season Hockey Tournament this past Saturday in Glenboro. The Neelin Spartans swept the Elton Sabres 25-23, 25-22 in the final of the Virden varsity girls Fall Classic volleyball tournament. The host Vikings defeated the Virden Bears 25-23, 25-19 in the final of the Vincent Massey junior varsity girls volleyball tournament.
