Do you enjoy experiencing new cuisines?
The Moose Jaw Multicultural Council (MJMC) will be bringing back their fundraiser ‘An Evening Around the World,’ which features a variety of international dishes and entertainment.
It will be held Nov. 15, 2024, at St. Andrew’s United Church, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and an event start time of 5:45 p.m.
This is the eighth time holding the event according to Melissa Mitchell, program manager at the Moose Jaw Newcomer Welcome Centre. “You get to come and experience different foods and different traditions, and music and entertainment from around the world.”
This year, attendees can look forward to dancing and music, and menu items including perogies, jollof rice, beef stew, injera and lentils, and elmali kurabiye.
“We’re also going to be having a Sudanese traditional coffee experience, and henna tattoos that people can partake in, as well as a silent auction and 50/50 draw.”
Funds from the event go to support programs and services that the MJMC offers to newcomers, but Mitchell added that there’s another benefit to the dinner.
“Being able to see the excitement in the clients’ faces when they get to share their traditions with the community. They get to share their cooking and traditional meals with the community.”
She added that the wider community also looks forward to the experience, and they often get inquiries about when the dinner is coming back.
While there isn’t a dress code, Mitchell said traditional wear is encouraged.
Tickets are available until noon on Nov. 15. There are 175 available, and they cost $35 each and can be purchased on Sasktix here.
Mitchell added that they are still looking for sponsors and donations of items to their silent auction, and you can call her at 306-692-6892 to express your interest.
If you’re interested in volunteering to help with the event, you can call Sharayah at 306-693-4677.
