Humboldt residents will have a chance to get their small appliances and items fixed up at this Saturday’s Humboldt Repair Cafe. The event takes place at the Humboldt Community Gathering Place from 11 am – 3 pm. If you have a lamp that needs some love, some missing buttons or patching needed, The Repair Cafe is the place.
The Repair Cafe is operated by the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council, a non-profit, non-governmental organization that exists to promote waste reduction both to the public and industry, explains Bobbie Duns, events and administration coordinator for the Council.
The Repair Cafe is manned by community volunteers with an expertise in some form of repair or remediation. Stitchers come in to help with fabric crises, those with electrical knowledge handle lamps or small appliances, or people with mechanical know-how tackle bikes and the like.
“We put out a lot of advertisements on social media and reach out through our network,” Duns explains. “We accept any volunteers – if you are handy or interested in repairing something, you don’t have to be a professional, and we accept volunteers for a wide variety of repair positions.”

If you need something repaired, the Cafe will accept walk-ins, but the preferred method is to book ahead using their online appointment system. Booked appointments take priority, Duns explains.
“The event is sponsored by Affinity Credit Union, and you can book an appointment or sign up to volunteer at our website: swrc.ca/events.”
Dig out those discarded but potentially reparable goodies and bring them down to the Repair Cafe this Saturday at the Humboldt Community Gathering Place.
