Winkler Police Service have been dealing with several separate shoplifting incidents since the end of September, their most recent report showing six separate incidents between September 30th to October 20th.
Staff of a local store reported a theft involving a male youth who left the store without paying for merchandise on September 30th.
On October 4th staff of a local store reported that two males attempted to leave without paying for merchandise. The males were stopped by staff, although it’s suspected they kept stolen items hidden in their clothing as well. A short time later, the same suspects shoplifted a large amount of merchandise from another local store and fled in a vehicle. Police were able to identify one of the suspects and are seeking a warrant for his arrest.
Police were also advised of a shoplifting incident that took place on October 7th, at a local store earlier in the day involving a male who left the store without paying for a large amount of merchandise. That investigation is still ongoing.
On Tuesday, October 8th, Police were dispatched to a theft in progress at a local store involving a male who was witnessed attempting to steal merchandise. Upon speaking with police, the male turned over the merchandise and was arrested for 'Theft Under $5000'. He was also charged with Breaching a Release Order and the 'Highway Traffic Act' offences of 'Driving with no Driver’s License' and 'Driving an Unregistered Vehicle'. He was remanded into custody to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court.
Winkler Police also received a report of a female having left a store without paying for merchandise on October 10th. Police recognized the female from video surveillance and a warrant has been issued for her arrest with the charges of 'Theft Under $5000' and the 'Highway Traffic Act' charges of 'Driving while Disqualified', and 'Driving an Unregistered Vehicle'.
Police are also investigating a report of two teenaged females who stole merchandise from a local store on October 11th. The investigation is ongoing.
