Provincial Crown prosecutors still do not have the documents to finish the plea deal with Dillon Peeace, but his lawyer has made a personal promise to get the documents signed immediately.
Lawyer Andrew Hitchcock appeared in-person in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Tuesday on behalf of Peeace. He told the court that attempts to get the documents have been unsuccessful to this point.
Understanding the urgency of the situation, Hitchcock said he would personally go down to the Regina Correctional Facility and get the necessary papers signed by Peeace to fulfill the obligation.
At a previous court appearance, Crown Prosecutor Rob Parker voiced his frustration that Peeace’s legal counsel has had since June to obtain the necessary documents.
Hitchcock asked for an adjournment to Nov. 6, which Parker agreed to.
In June, Peeace pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of aggravated assault endangering the life of the victim instead of attempted murder. He also pleaded guilty to outstanding charges of breaking and entering and failing to attend court. Peeace was sentenced to two years behind bars.
The charges stem from a machete attack in downtown Moose Jaw in September of 2023.
