Brandon Wheat Kings forward Roger McQueen was named to the Team CHL roster for the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge. The 18-year-old Saskatoon native, who had eight goals and three assists in eight games this season, will not play due to a long-term injury. The new event that will see the top first-year 2025 NHL Draft-eligible prospects from the CHL’s Member Leagues - the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League - face off against USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program Under-18 Team in a two-game series on November 26th in London and November 27th in Oshawa. The 22 players on Team CHL were selected from a list of the top 2025 NHL Draft prospects as generated by a survey conducted with all 32 NHL clubs.
The Winnipeg Jets extended their season-opening winning streak to six games thanks to a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Kyle Connor, Nino Niederreiter and Colin Miller did the goal scoring for the visiting Jets. Connor has scored in four straight games. Cole Perfetti assisted on all three Winnipeg goals. Connor Hellebuyck made 27 saves. The Jets (6-0-0) continue their three-game road trip Thursday night when they meet the Seattle Kraken.
The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers have extended the contract of head coach Paul Maurice. The former Winnipeg Jets bench boss was in the final year of a three-year deal.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American quarterback Darren Grainger, American defensive end Brandon Wright and American defensive back Jordan Toles to futures deals as of the 2025 season. Grainger will return in 2025 after spending part of the 2024 CFL season with the team. Wright returns in 2025 after joining the club during this year’s PR expansion window before being released. Toles signs a futures contract with the Blue Bombers after spending a four-year collegiate career with LSU (2020-2021), and Morgan State (2022-2023). Toles signed as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in May 2024, but was released in July 2024.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will feature a slimmed-down program, dropping rugby sevens along with field hockey, triathlon, badminton, cricket, squash, and diving. The event will focus on 10 sports across four venues. Athletics and swimming remain compulsory, joined by track cycling, gymnastics, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, lawn bowling, and three-on-three basketball.
