A total of 25 groups were the recipients of the Boissevain-Morton Donors Choice campaign this week. Their annual general meeting took place this past Monday afternoon in council chambers.
Barry Lamb, stepped into his new role as Chair this past summer upon previous Chair, Patty Rainnie's term completion.
Lamb says of the 25 recipients on this year's list about half of them are local organizations, with the remainder being either provincial or national non-profits, like the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
"The yellow donor sheets go out in April to residents of the Boissevain-Morton Municipality and people have a few months to get the money in and then we hand out in the fall each year," he explains, "and this year about $63,000 was collected and distributed to those 25 agency groups. And that's down about $4500-$5000 from last year, but we are still quite happy with the level of support coming in from area residents."
Lamb noted long-time volunteer with Donors Choice, Teresa Armstrong, has decided to step down from her role as Treasurer with Deb Merritt now assuming that role.
"After about 30 years of doing the books for the organization here in Boissevain, Teresa is stepping aside and the Board wants to thank Teresa for her years and decades of dedicated service to Donors Choice and what the group does for the area," shares Lamb.
New to this year's list was the Westman Animal Rescue who applied to be added to the 2024 list back in 2023.
"It's obvious that when more than $60,000 comes in that people in the region of Boissevain-Morton are committed to supporting these groups," adds Barry Lamb. "[It's] a lot of money flowing in and out and a big thank you to Donors Choice. Our Board is simply the group that brings the money in and sends it out as quickly as possible, but area residents are the ones to make this work, and a big thank you to the continued support and we look forward in participating in 2025 as well."
