A young boxer from Chestermere returned from the north with a championship belt.

Twelve-year-old George Moliakov has been boxing for the last six months with Olympus Chestermere Boxing Club. His father Artem also serves as his coach.

"I went to the gym to lose weight, and I liked it, so I started boxing," said Moliakov.

Moliakov was in Edmonton on Saturday (Oct. 19) for a bout against another young boxer. In the end, Moliakov ended up winning by a split decision.

"I was nervous, but in the rink, I wasn't nervous anymore," added Moliakov. "I won the first round, lost the second, and won the third."

The young athlete got to take home a white championship belt to celebrate his win.

"It was a good feeling. I was happy."

As for what comes next for Moliakov, he has his next fight set up in Chestermere on November 2.
