Habitat for Humanity is getting closer to their larger neighborhood development in Brandon located north of Stickney Avenue, named Assiniboine Gardens.

The new project is expected to begin in 2026 providing anywhere between 40-60 new homes through the Habitat program.

Habitat is currently working on a development agreement with the City of Brandon for the donation of the land, the first two phases being a donation of 27 lots which will be turned into affordable Habitat housing.

Habitat Manitoba's Senior VP of Program Delivery, Steve Krahn, says that larger project will take more time to develop, however they have plans for single dwelling homes on a different location on Stickney Avenue that will begin next spring.

"We'll be building on two lots on Stickney which is separate from the larger land that we're working with the City of Brandon on," explains Krahn. "This project was also a donation of land from the city and we're going to turn that into two single homes and we're going to build those next year."

Krahn says the Franklin Street and Percy Street developments are in their final leg with two more Habitat homes being completed next summer.

"And then all that remains is one vacant lot and we haven't determined exactly how we want to do it," he adds. "We might start construction on that next year. We're waiting for just the right family for that lot and then we'll complete it."
