Three Manitobans will wear the Maple Leaf with Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team for the first three games of the 2024-25 Rivalry Series, starting November 6th in San Jose, California. Goaltender Kristen Campbell of Brandon and defenders Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne and Ashton Bell of Deloraine are on Team Canada's 25-player roster. All three helped Canada win its 13th gold medal at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship. Canada has won the Rivalry Series in back-to-back seasons, winning the final four games in 2023 and 2024 to secure victory in seven games. Since the start of the Rivalry Series during the 2018-19 season, Canada holds a 15-13 advantage over the Americans.
The Winnipeg Jets will put their undefeated record on the line tonight when they meet the Seattle Kraken. The Jets, who are 6-0 to start the 2024-25 NHL season, opened their three-game road trip with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Wednesday that manager Logan Watkins, pitching coach Mark Brewer, and hitting coach Adam Donachie have agreed to new two-year contracts with the club. Watkins guided the Goldeyes to a 56-43 record in 2024 and a berth in the Miles Wolff Cup Final. It was a remarkable turnaround for a team that finished last in the West Division a year earlier. The former Chicago Cubs infielder was named American Association Manager of the Year on September 10th.
Braxton Kuntz of Winnipeg, who won his fourth straight Manitoba Men's Amateur Championship this past summer and is currently attending Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, is among 29 amateur athletes named by Golf Canada to the 2025 men’s and women’s Team Canada and Team Canada – NextGen squads. Golf Canada’s National Team program supports a group of experienced amateurs on the path towards playing professional golf along with a group of young professional golfers building their careers as touring pros. The program provides individualized training and competition support with a goal to help advance 30 Canadian athletes to the LPGA and PGA TOUR by 2032.
