Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself?
A: I’m Jordan and I work as an agrologist. I am passionate about supporting local agriculture, improving healthcare access and enhancing education opportunities within our community. I decided to run because I was looking for change and I just wasn’t seeing that with Scott Moe and the Sask. Party. In our house growing up, we were taught that if you see something broken, you roll up your sleeves and get it fixed. That’s why I threw my hat in the ring.
Q: What do you feel are some of the pressing issues for your constituency in this election?
A: Every day this campaign I’ve heard stories from folks about just how broken our healthcare system is. The care just isn’t there when people need it. People are struggling with rising costs while the Sask. Party does nothing – they actually increased and expanded the PST. We’ve got a plan to lower costs for folks on Day 1, by cutting the gas tax saving you 15 cents a litre every time you fill up the tank. We’ll also get rid of the PST on groceries and children’s clothes before the holidays.
Q: How would the NDP improve housing in the province?
A: We need more affordable housing in the province. Our plan will protect renters from skyrocketing rental rates and open 3,000 government-owned housing units that are currently collecting dust and sitting empty. This is about common sense solutions and maximizing the resources and solutions we have available to us.
Q: What is the NDP's plan for healthcare?
A: We’ll invest $1.1 billion in new funding to hire more doctors, more nurses and frontline healthcare workers and upgrade part-time and casual positions to full-time to better attract and retain healthcare workers into smaller and rural communities. We’ll launch a Grow Your Own strategy, which will train-up local healthcare workers in their own communities, ensuring that we can keep our hospitals open and that you can access local healthcare when and where you need it.
Q: If elected, what would the NDP do about policing and public safety?
A: Crime is a huge issue I’ve been hearing about on the doorsteps. Under Scott Moe, we’ve seen crime rates skyrocket to the worst in Canada. We used to be able to leave our doors unlocked and now people don’t feel safe walking down the street. We’re focused on getting tough on crimes and tough on the causes of crime. We’ll hire 200 more frontline RCMP and local police officers and get tough on the causes of crime by investing in mental health and addictions services.
Q: What is the NDP's plan to grow the economy?
A: Our workers have so much potential in the province, but for too long, Scott Moe and the Sask. Party has seen jobs shipped out of the province. We want less Alberta plates on job sites, and more Saskatchewan plates. That’s why we’re committed to Hire Saskatchewan, our plan to hire Saskatchewan workers and companies first for government contracts, so our tax dollars get reinvested into growing our communities. We will also expand cellular service and internet connectivity through rural communities and will provide businesses with a stable investment environment by freezing corporate and small business taxes over the course of our first 4 years.
