The last of the fall leaves cling to trees as we turn the corner from October to November.

Turning the corner into the end of October, from a weather standpoint almost anything can happen. High school football and soccer teams could be playing in the snow dash Halloween costume kids could turn from fuzzy Ewoks into yetis by the end of their foraging.

This October however, things look promising for a seasonal to mild turn with relatively little risk of precipitation heading toward November, according to environment and climate change Canada.

“It looks to be above seasonal up until the end of the weekend,” says meteorologist and climate change specialist Stephen Berg. “There’s a bit of a ridge that’s over top the central prairies that will be moving eastward and giving way to a trough by early next week.”

That means the weekend temperatures should hover in the teens for highs on Sunday, and then on Monday, they will take a dip toward sustained single digits in the week.

As for precipitation in the form of either rain or snow, Berg says there’s not much indication beyond today’s showers.

“It doesn’t look like there will be much precipitation until mid-next week when there might be a few millimetres, and depending on the timing, the odd flurry. Otherwise, it looks pretty quiet for precipitation until the end of the month.”

It should be an unremarkable Halloween weather wise. But this is Saskatchewan after all, so get the thermal undergarments ready for your trick and treaters just in case.
