The annual Pass, Set, Crush Volleyball Tournament held at La Verendrye School (LVS) recently concluded with an exciting victory for the boy's team from LVS. This year's event saw both boy's and girl's teams competing fiercely, with the boys unexpectedly clinching the championship title.

Mitch Nelissen, one of the coaches, and LVS Phys'Ed teacher expressed surprise at the boys' triumph.

"We weren’t expecting to win, but the team came together and played exceptionally well."

The team showcased impressive skills and teamwork throughout the tournament, a sentiment echoed by co-coach and LVS Phys'Ed teacher Dillon Grant.

"Our Grade 8's stepped up as leaders, helping our younger players excel. Their enthusiasm on the court was infectious."

The excitement was almost too much to contain as the boys progressed through the matches. Grant shared that the players were thrilled to find themselves in the finals, maintaining composure even when facing a challenging opponent.

"When we had the lead, you could see their excitement, but they stayed focused and finished strong."

The moment the final whistle blew, the boys celebrated their victory, many unaware they would receive a plaque for their efforts.

Among the players, Co-captain and Grade 8 student Seth reflected on his experience.

"I didn't expect to win; this was my first time!"

He attributed their success to the hard work and dedication of the entire team, highlighting the positive influence of their coaches.

Co-captain Daly expressed similar sentiments.

"This is the first time I’ve placed first in something. It felt amazing to win with my teammates."

As LVS looks forward to future competitions this season, both coaches and players hope to inspire the next generation, encouraging younger teammates to carry on the team spirit and skills they have developed this season onto the next.
