Valleyview Co-op had a fantastic Fuel Good Day last month giving over $10,000 to their 4 community projects and organizations in their trading region.
"We were really excited about our community turnout on Fuel Good Day," says Fuel Division Manager at Valleyview Co-op, Sue Capern. "It's such a good opportunity to be able to give back to our local communities, and this year I think we did even better than we did the previous years. So, it always makes my heart swell a little bit when I see the communities come out and the excitement that our own team members have about supporting it."
A total of $10,061.06 was collected on Tuesday, September 17th, with funds allocated to Virden School's nutrition program (divided between the 4 Virden schools), Kenton Community Enterprises, Pierson Early Learning Center and Melita Early Learning Center.
"We really broke open the barn door this year!" says Capern with a laugh. "We were really excited about that and we're already starting to plan next year's event."
"I think what makes this really special too is that our store managers and staff in all our communities, as a team, they pick their local cause," she explains. "You know, some campaigns are just picked by people who live in ivory towers in some of those big companies out there. And what makes this one kind of special is it really goes to support the local communities."
In addition to 10 cents a litre of every fuel fill-up going to the community organizations, $1 from every Co-op coffee and Slush was added to pot as well. In addition to that they provided a BBQ meal at each of their locations with all money raised from that noon meal going to that community initiative.
"It's just wonderful to see the response of the people of the community when the money goes to support their community," adds Capern.
