The Royal Canadian Legion's annual Poppy Campaign launched in Strathmore on Friday (Oct. 25).
The fundraiser leads up to Remembrance Day on November 11.
Ana Haines, poppy chair with the Strathmore Legion says volunteers will be set up in booths at local grocery stores like the Co-op, No Frills, and Walmart to hand out poppies.
"The monies gathered from those locations go into our Poppy Trust Fund."
Haines mentioned the funds will help out local veterans who are in need of financial assistance or are facing food insecurity.
"Local veterans will come in and ask for assistance. They speak to our branch service officers, and they're helped out with some of their needs and requirements."
According to Haines, there isn't a fundraising goal this year besides what the community can donate.
"We're appreciative of any of the funds that the community and people give to us."
