The Tiger Hills Hockey League’s 2024-25 season got underway Friday night. Jeremy Johnson had two goals and an assist in the Virden Oil Kings 5-2 victory over Boissevain. Tanner Koroscil, Joel Cosens and Devon LeBlanc also scored for the Oil Kings. Tyler Dittmer and David Robertson replied for the Border Kings. Justin Minoletti scored twice to lead MacGregor past Carberry 4-1. Drew Anderson and Braden Nicoll also scored for the Wild. Nate Robson had the lone goal for the Plainsmen.


The Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders and Vincent Massey Vikings were winners in the Westman High School Hockey League. Dylan Granger had a goal and two assists as the Raiders beat Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn/Birdtail 5-2. Lucas Newman and Tate Bercier each had a hat trick as the defending champion Vikings downed Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 8-2.


Riley Fluker scored twice, Lynden Gould had three assists and Brodie Cameron made 13 saves as the Southwest Cougars blanked the Norman Northstars 5-0. Jack Swaenepoel, Taylor Lockhart and Connor Hoemsen also scored for the Cougars who have won eight of their last nine games.


The Westman Wildcats blanked the Central Plains Capitals 2-0 in Deloraine. Reese Schutte scored both goals for the Wildcats. Indigo Stone made 10 saves in recording the shutout.


The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 5-3 decision to the Portage Terriers at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Tyson Draper, Campbell Epp and Ethan Guthrie did the goal scoring for the Caps who led 3-0 midway through the second period.


The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 4-3 in overtime to the Saskatoon Blades at Westoba Place. Ben Riche potted the winner 1:37 into the extra period. Jaxon Jacobson scored twice in regulation for the Wheat Kings. Dylan Ronald had the other Brandon goal.


The Winnipeg Jets wrap up their three-game road trip tonight when they meet the Flames in Calgary. The Jets are on a franchise record seven-game win streak to start the NHL’s 2024-25 season.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their regular season finale today at 2 p.m. against the Alouettes in Montreal. The Bombers (10-7) will clinch first place and a bye to the West Division final with a win or tie. The defending Grey Cup champions have already clinched top spot in the East.
