The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will host the CFL’s West Division final. Sergio Castillo kicked a walk-off 51-yard field goal to lift Winnipeg past the Montreal Alouettes 28-27. Zach Collaros threw for 331 yards and completed a nine-yard touchdown pass to Nic Demski as the Bombers clinched first place in the division with an 11-7 record. The B.C. Lions will meet the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina next Saturday in the division semifinal.
The Killarney Shamrocks and Rivers Jets were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League on Saturday night. Rylan Gudnason and Jesse Bernard each had a goal and assist as the Shamrocks downed the Minnedosa Bombers 4-1. The Jets blanked the Deloraine Royals 6-0. Riley Lamb made 16 saves in recording the shutout.
The defending champion Vincent Massey Vikings are 8-0 to start the Westman High School Hockey League season. Joey Leblanc had two goals and an assist as the Vikings defeated Minnedosa/Erickson 7-3. Aubrey Cuvelier and Landon Lockhart each had two goals and two assists as the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders beat Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 7-5. Ethan Carnegie had a goal and three assists in the Dauphin Clippers 8-1 win over the Virden Golden Bears. Crocus Plains shutdown Reston/Melita/Hartney/Souris 2-0. Destin Brown and Ritchie Monias did the goal scoring for the Plainsmen.
The Westman Wildcats scored three unanswered third period goals and rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Wheat Kings in Brandon. Callie Hilhost scored twice for the Wildcats including the go-ahead goal on the power play with 8:38 left. Reese Schutte and Payton Smith also scored for Westman.
The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 3-2 decision to the Steinbach Pistons at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Marshall Light and Luke Robson did the goal scoring for the Caps who trailed 1-0 and 2-1 at the period breaks.
Luke Shipley scored the tying goal with 55 seconds left in regulation and Marcus Wguyen potted the winner 2:32 into overtime to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings past the Calgary Hitmen 4-3 at Westoba Place. Nolan Flamand and Joby Baumuller also scored for the Wheat Kings.
The Winnipeg Jets are still perfect. Cole Perfetti scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 3:44 remaining and Winnipeg defeated the Calgary Flames 5-3. Nikolaj Ehlers, Kyle Connor, Dylan Samberg and Mason Appleton into an empty net also scored for the Jets who are 8-0 and will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday. Winnipeg scored twice with the manadvantage and once shorthanded. Eric Comrie made 26 saves. The Jets are the ninth team in NHL history to record at least eight wins to begin a season.
The Manitoba Moose lost their home opener Saturday afternoon. The Rockford IceHogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit with five unanswered goals and beat Manitoba 5-3 at Canada Life Centre. C.J. Suess, Mason Shaw and Nikita Chibrikov did the goal scoring for the Moose.
