Ryler Gates made 28 saves in the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-1 victory over the Kenora Thistles. Haiden Friesen, Carson Hiebert, Ryder Wolfe and Casey Magarrell did the goal scoring for the Hawks who completed a weekend home-and-home sweep. Pembina Valley shaded the Thistles 3-2 on Saturday in Kenora. 


The Pembina Valley Hawks dropped a 5-1 decision to the Eastman Selects. Casey O'Brien scored the lone goal for the Hawks with 6:59 remaining in the third period. Pembina Valley netminder Kasia Rakowski made 31 saves. 


Team Manitoba lost 8-1 to Alberta in the gold medal game at the 2024 WHL Cup in Red Deer. Knox Burton of Winnipeg scored our province's lone goal. Team Manitoba went 0-3 in the round robin losing 4-3 to British Columbia, 5-2 to Alberta and 5-0 to Saskatchewan. Tyden Lafournaise of Winnipeg had a goal and two assists and Tate Barnaby of Winnipeg made 46 saves as Manitoba beat BC 4-2 in the semifinals. Cohen Lewko of Sanford was on Team Manitoba's roster. 


The Winkler Flyers wrapped up their three-game road trip with a 2-1 loss to the Dauphin Kings at Credit Union Place. Jayce Legaarden scored his 10th goal of the season for the defending Turnbull Cup champions. Joshua Schmidt potted the go-ahead goal for Dauphin on the power play at 14:43 of the third period. The Flyers outshot the Kings 35-20. 


The Pembina Valley Twisters gave up six unanswered goals and fell 8-6 to the River East Royals Knights. Austin Spicer had three goals and two assists for the Twisters. Ketema Wall scored twice and Owen Vanrobaeys also found the back of the net for Pembina Valley. The Twisters led 6-2 after Spicer completed his hat trick 6:23 into the second period. Pembina Valley has lost eight in a row and sit in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League's cellar with a 1-9-1 record.


Brenden Walker and Matt Bailey scored four goals each as the defending South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Ste. Anne Aces defeated the Portage Islanders 19-0 at Stride Place. Mathieu Moreira and Jordan DePape each had a hat trick while singles went to Brett Lernout, Caleb Paisley, Adam Hughesman, Braden Purtill and Burke Heide. Travis Bosch made 24 saves in recording the shutout. 


The Winnipeg Jets put their season opening eight-game win streak on the line tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Canada Life Centre. The Jets wrapped up their three-game road trip on Saturday with a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames.


Brad Lambert scored the go-ahead goal on the power play 30 seconds into the third period and Dominic Divincentiis made 30 saves as Manitoba defeated the Rockford IceHogs 3-1 at Canada Life Centre. C.J. Suess and Dylan Anhorn also scored for the Moose. 


Team Brad Gushue was 2-0 and Team Rachel Homan were perfect on day one of the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championships in Lacombe, Alberta. Gushue defeated Team Jaebeom Lee of South Korea 10-3 and Team Ken Hsu of Chinese Taipei 17-1. Homan beat Team Cory Thiesse of the United States 9-2. 


Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier were again golden at Skate Canada International in Halifax. The Canadian ice dancers won gold at the Grand Prix event for the fifth straight year.
