It all came down to the final kick in the final game. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have clinched first place in the West Division and kicker Sergio Castillo gives all glory to God.
"I was grateful to have a second chance. After missing the 61, I thought it was over. The fact that we had another shot, I was excited," Castillo said to TSN following the victory.
"The next thing you know, you see rain and everything moving. For me, one of my favourite Bible verses is Galatians 6:9. Do not grow weary in doing good. For if you don't give up, in due time, you reap a harvest," Castillo says. "As we planted the seed, we planted the work, the rain is coming, it was perfect time that God was like, 'Your harvest is coming.' Just glad that we could come back for Winnipeg."
As the weather changed drastically at the end, Castillo says, "It was pretty rowdy right from one minute to the next, but I was just grateful for another opportunity."
Castillo says that as the game was nearing completion, "I prayed to God for a game-winner and He gave it. I think it was a perfect ending."
He says he is grateful for the support from the staff and team after he missed the 61 opportunity. "Grateful for having my back and lifting me up after missing the 61 because I thought it was done. Next thing I knew, it's second down, they were punting and I was like 'We have another shot.'"
The Blue Bombers have punched their ticket to the West Division final on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Princess Auto Stadium. Castillo says, "See you in two weeks Winnipeg."
