A family-friendly trick or treat alternative returns to Strathmore on Halloween (Oct. 31).

The Strathmore Full Gospel Church will host its annual Trunk or Treat event in the church's parking lot from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

"We've been doing this for over a decade now," said Jessica Clayton, next-gen director of the church. "We are just a group of people that come and decorate our trunks in ways that aren't scary for young families."

With Halloween night expecting temperatures to reach as low as -8°C, there will also be fireplaces set up for people to keep warm, along with hot chocolate and popcorn.

Hundreds of children attend Trunk or Treat every year, according to Jessica Clayton.

"It's just a great way for the community to come together in a safe area and gather," added Clayton, stating that there are around seven trunks in the parking lot for kids to get candy.

The event has seen a huge turnout since its formation.

"We have roughly 400 kids or more," said Clayton. "All are welcome. It's a safe place to come and a light in the darkness for people to gather and enjoy themselves."

The Strathmore Full Gospel Church is located at 50 Maplewood Drive.
