A woman is recovering after being run over by her own vehicle during a carjacking that took place in broad daylight in downtown Winnipeg. 

The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, in the 300 block of York Ave. near Carlton St.

Winnipeg police say that a 45-year-old woman was robbed of her Toyota Tundra in a parking lot near the intersection of York Avenue and Carlton Street.

During the altercation, she was run over by her own vehicle as it fled. The victim suffered significant injuries and was transported to hospital in unstable condition, and has since been upgraded to stable.

Officers later located the stolen vehicle in the Elmwood area.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

No arrests have been made.
