Rocky View County will play host to a special ceremony to honour veterans in the community.
The event, which was first started by the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation, will be hosted at the Garden of Peace Cemetery near Chestermere.
According to Todd Baker, lead cemetery operational coordinator with the county, when he first started working for the organization 12 years ago, he noticed there were a couple of ceremonies in Calgary where students placed poppies on the headstones of veterans. That's when he decided to take action.
"I signed up and started doing them 10 years ago."
The ceremony pays tribute to veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedoms of Canadians.
Two schools are participating in this year's program including students from Bishop Carroll from Calgary and St. Gabriel the Archangel School in Chestermere.
"We usually get anywhere from 70 to 100 people, which fills up the chapel," added Baker.

He explained that it's vital for residents to show their respect to veterans.
"I believe it's important to include the younger generation and show them what we're doing and why we're doing it so that maybe they can continue to do it into the future."
According to the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation, last year's events saw 11,340 students from 200 communities come out to honour 80,838 veterans across the world.
The event near Chestermere will run on November 6 at 11 a.m. and a national program in Edmonton will be held on November 4 and can be viewed here.
Strathmore will host its own Remembrance Day event on November 11 at the Legion.
