The Veterans Food Bank of Alberta received a $260 cheque from the Strathmore Musical Arts Society following a show by local musician Tim Isberg.

The veteran's group also received an extra $140 from Mint Pharmacy and Original Joe's, making a total of $400 donated.

The money raised through the 50/50 draw of the concert was presented to volunteer Ken Oliphent at the 104.5 More Country station on Tuesday (Oct. 29).

"Being a veteran, the most important thing is when somebody gives something to the organizations and the veterans benefit," said Oliphent. "I just wanted to give back to something I was familiar with."

The Veterans Food Bank of Alberta began operating out of Calgary in 2017, marking two food banks for veterans in the city, alongside the separate entity, The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary.

"It's just having some kind of organization there should the veterans require it. If they don't, that's fine, but if there's ever a requirement for them to seek support, it's readily available for them," added Oliphent.

Moving to Strathmore in 2007, Oliphent has been actively involved in several veteran support groups, including the Strathmore Legion. According to him, it's "fantastic" to see local groups raising money for veterans.

"It's worthy and it's going to a good cause that genuinely does good things with the money and donations. I'm genuinely humbled."

The Strathmore Musical Arts Society's next show is in November featuring the Traveling Mabels, with all proceeds going towards the Strathmore & Wheatland County Christmas Hamper Society.
