The Village of Caronport and the Caronport Community Safety Office have signed a new 40-month contract extension.

The contract extension will ensure that the Caronport Community Safety Office will continue with its safety initiatives within the village. Since the program came into effect in 2021, the village has reported a decline in crime and other offences in the community.

The Caronport Community Safety Office provides services such as regular patrols, community outreach programs and safety education workshops.

The office also works closely with the RCMP and other provincial agencies to help coordinate safety measures in Caronport.

The office consists of retired Moose Jaw police officer Special Const. Randy Jesse, who is the community safety officer, and community safety mascot K9 BOO. K9 BOO assists in interactions with the public and school to help increase engagement and reduce trauma and anxiety.

"We are deeply grateful for the community's trust and support," said Jesse in a press release. "This extension empowers us to enhance our efforts in building a safer Caronport for everyone."

As part of their duties, the community safety office also coordinates the village’s Emergency Measures Organization so that the community is prepared for any emergencies or disaster.
