After five years of developing the plan to relocate the Winkler Elementary School office, both students and staff celebrated the completion of the project with a ribbon-cutting event on Tuesday morning.
The new office, now situated near the main entrance, was moved with the goal of enhancing visibility and accessibility, allowing staff to greet visitors as they enter the building.
Winkler Elementary Principal Jordan James shared, “We feel just very fortunate. It’s something that was really needed, and now that we have it up and running and we get to see it in use, we realize how needed it was.”
James also highlighted the additional space that the new office provides.
“We have a board room, we have a place where we can meet with staff and with families, it makes a huge difference in our day-to-day.”
Garden Valley School Division Board (GVSD) Chair Leah Klassen added “Of course the aesthetics are amazing, however, what struck me was the safety. The fact that when we walked in, I had a complete eyeline of who was working at the desk, and you can see who’s coming in.”

Principal James mentioned that students have also been curious about the office for some time and shared that one school morning had been dedicated to student tours throughout the office to satiate curiosities, noting that some of the students thought the office was nice enough to joke about being sent to the office deliberately.
