Shrek the Musical is coming to High River.

The production is being put on by the Windmill Theatre Players and will be quite the celebration.

Two major milestones will be reached with this performance.

Co-director Miranda Scott is beyond excited and extremely grateful they're doing it.

"It's actually our 50th anniversary this year which means that Shrek the Musical is our 100th major production. So, it's so exciting, we're so thrilled. It's such an honour to be able to direct it. It's a family friendly event.

We're doing our dinner theatre, we have our regular theatre, we have matinees. We're even doing special pricing on November 30th matinee for kids. Kids under 16 can get in for under $10."

Scott explains that it's more than what was in the movies as it delves deeper into the main characters lives.

"It's definitely an expansion of the movies which is really cool because we're able to show a bit more of the relationships that are built. It's a beautiful expansion between Shrek and Fiona and Shrek and Donkey and you see a bit more of Lord Farquaad which is absolutely hilarious. A lot more jokes are packed in there. It's just funny and heartwarming. It's been amazing to see what our actors have done thus far. They are on top of their game."

Scott says there's some great local talent that have stepped up to the plate.

"Our one and only Shrek is played by Tyson Walker. He just nailed the audition, did the accent perfectly. He's a new father and so he's balancing perfectly of being our amazing Shrek and then also being a great dad.

Our Fiona is Kianna Rose, she's from Calgary. She was in Grease the Musical last Spring, and she has just stepped up above and beyond. We wanted a quirky Fiona. Someone who is funny. You can see the ease of relationship between her and Shrek instead of being a gap. They have great chemistry."

The show runs from Thursday, November 21 to Saturday, November 30.

Pricing and tickets can be purchased through event bright.
