More than just goblins and gools will be out about tonight in Killarney.
The Killarney Mennonite and Lakeview Community churches are once again partnering for their annual food drive in support of the Killarney Food Bank.
Pastor Danny Groening from the Killarney Mennonite Church says the annual event is a great way to restock the organization's shelves.
"We try our best not to miss anyone, and we just ask the community to pre-package a bag or a box of their donations of non-perishable food items and set it out on their front step by around 5:30 p.m. on Halloween. We're running through between 5:30 to 7:30, and our volunteers will pick that up and we weight it and box it and haul everything over to the food bank that night."
Groening added, other expensive consumables, like laundry detergent, are good to include in the box of donations.
He did have one word of caution for those planning to leave out a package.
"The only thing is to remind people to just check for expiration dates because if something is in your pantry for a little while, you forget that canned goods still have an expiration date on them, even if they haven't gone bad. So, it's just one of those things we remind people that if you can take a look at that to make sure it's a current expiration date, even on canned goods, just for the sake of following the best practice and stuff like that when you're when you're giving food out."
Brown bags with logos are available for free at the Killarney Co-op to pack your donations in to.
One quick note; volunteers won't be going through apartment buildings to collect doorstep donations. Instead, people who live in apartments are asked to leave their donations at the building's main entrance.
