It’s the 19th annual Better Together Food Drive tonight, put on by the Hillcrest Church in support of the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank.
Daycee Richardson, with the Hillcrest Church, said their volunteers are excited to collect donations around the city. “We have over 400 volunteers that are ready, coming to your door between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. to pick up bags of food, boxes of food – whatever you have for us to give to the food bank.”
While paper bags were sent out for people to put items in, Richardson said that any bag or box will work to hold the non-perishable items.
“Everything ends up at the Exhibition Grounds, and hundreds of volunteers are there to sort, and to get it boxed up and palleted, and then we deliver it to the food bank the next day.”
Richardson added that there are two semi-trailers ready and waiting to be filled, and with the number of volunteers that they have, they’re expecting to be done in record time.
Last year’s food drive collected 44,216 lbs of food for the Moose Jaw & District Food Bank.
