The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) has announced Eston as a standout in the 2024 Communities in Bloom Provincial Competition, awarding it 4 Blooms in the 501-1,000 population category. This year, Eston’s dedication to beautifying its public spaces, preserving heritage, and managing environmental initiatives earned the town special recognition for its efforts in environmental action—particularly through its water conservation initiatives at local ball diamonds.
The Communities in Bloom program, a celebrated tradition in Saskatchewan, evaluates participants based on six main criteria: Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape, and Plant & Floral Displays. Eston excelled across these areas, competing against other communities in its category to capture the highest Bloom Rating and a special mention for its environmental achievements.
Eston’s Water Conservation in the Ball Diamonds project was highlighted as an exceptional example of sustainable community development. This initiative has allowed the town to use resources more efficiently, creating a model for water management that local residents and visiting sports teams alike have embraced. The project aligns with Eston’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility, making the town a leader in community-driven conservation efforts.
"Seeing Eston recognized for our efforts to keep our community beautiful and sustainable is a proud moment for everyone involved," said a local representative. "This award reflects the hard work of our volunteers, town staff, and residents who work together to ensure Eston not only blooms but thrives."
Across the province, 37 communities participated in the 2024 competition, showing their dedication to enhancing community appearance, preserving heritage, and promoting sustainable practices. In Eston, residents celebrated the announcement with plans to further expand their environmental initiatives in future years.
The town’s achievements underscore how a small community can make a big impact when it comes to environmental stewardship and public beautification. As Eston continues to grow and evolve, this recognition marks a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainable development and community pride.
