A lagoon upgrade project in Diamond Valley has been extended, causing a part of a dog park to be closed.
A portion of the Westend Regional Sewage Services Commission's sewage lagoon project has been extended, causing the partial closure of the Black Diamond Off Leash Dog Park to be extended as well.
The area of construction that has been delayed is near the river, but the remaining area of work has not been affected by the delay.
The unaffected area is expected to be completed next spring, but the completion of that work will not alter the required closures at the dog park.
Currently, the Town doesn't have an estimated timeline of when the delayed work will be completed, due to the work being in the river area and depends on various factors that affect their permit approvals, such as the weather, birds, and their habitat.
The portion of the park that is closed is actually owned by the Westend Regional Sewage Services Commission, because that's where the sewage treatment facilities are.
According to the Town, they have normally allowed the area to act as an extension of the dog park, but to ensure everyone's safety and the safety of the habitats in the area, the area is closed while they complete the works.
While there is an area of the dog park that is closed, the remainder of the park is open for dogs to enjoy.
On top of that, the off-leash dog park in the Turner Valley side of town is still available.
Once the Town has a timeline of when the work should be completed, they will let everyone know.
