Trick or treaters will be out in force on Thursday night for Halloween as they collect candy and a few frights.
Strathmore resident Destany Currie says the family will be out for some scares on All Hallows Eve.
"My mom does the first half. She takes them all and wears them out for me, and then I take them until they drop."
Currie mentioned the family goes to several communities to hang out with other kids and have fun.
"As much as we live in a small town, everybody has such busy lives. To run into people you haven't seen in a good decent amount of time, it's cool too. You get to catch up then and share stories about the kids."
According to Currie, the family also carves jack-o'-lantern pumpkins, takes the pumpkin seeds, and eats them too.
Even though people are gearing up for a fun night, the Strathmore Fire Department is reminding residents to slow down and watch for kids in their costumes.
Tips for trick or treaters:
- Wear a bright costume so drivers can see parents and their kids.
- Ensure costumes are not flammable.
- Use face paint instead of masks to prevent tripping hazards.
- Trick or treat before it gets dark.
- Younger kids should be with an adult.
- Help kids plan a route and find a time to get home.
- Stick to the front of a home's doorway.
- Stay on the sidewalk and cross the street at safe intersections.
- Don't use shortcuts through abandoned areas and alleys.
- Carry a cell phone or flashlight.
- Inspect the candy before kids eat it.
Tips for homeowners:
- Make sure the front entrance is well-lit for trick or treaters and turn on the porch light.
- Clear items from front lawns.
- Ensure pets are kept away from the front entrance.
- Think about using battery-operated candles or glow sticks instead of real candles.
Tips for drivers:
- Slow down in residential areas.
- Watch out for kids as they can jump out between parked cars.
- Look out for people using pedestrian crossings.
