Estevan will welcome arm wrestlers from across Saskatchewan and Manitoba for the 15th edition of the Man-Sask Challenge, marking the first time this competition has been held in the city. Estevan Southern Impact, the local arm-wrestling club, will host the event at the Fired Up Grill on November 15 and 16.
Desiree Da Silva, one of the club’s founding members, is excited to bring the provincial rivalry home. "Last year in Brandon, it went really well," said Da Silva. "We had males and females compete, and Manitoba unfortunately got the gold medal... so we want to bring it home."
The two-day event will kick off with weigh-ins from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and again from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The tournament will then begin at 1:00 p.m. with 10 “super matches,” pitting competitors from each province against each other in a best-of-five format. The winning team will take home a four-foot trophy awarded to the province with the most wins.
The event will also feature a youth division and open matches for both men and women. "It's open to anybody," Da Silva explained. "It doesn’t matter where you’re from."
The Fired Up Grill, which has donated the space, will provide a full viewing area for spectators. Fans can also catch the action live on the Estevan Southern Impact Facebook page. Entry fees to compete are $30 for adults and $10 for youth.
