Rocky View Schools (RVS) is asking the provincial government for modular classrooms to tackle enrolment growth.

The school division has requested 27 spaces and one washroom unit to be moved to schools where classrooms are needed. This includes six in Chestermere.

“Approvals for new modular classrooms and funding to relocate existing modulars each year continues to be necessary for RVS to relieve rising student enrolment pressures while we wait for new schools to be built,” said board chair Fiona Gilbert. “When we don’t receive all the modulars we need, it further compounds the space challenges our schools already face.”

There are currently five projects approved in RVS' 2024 budget to approach growing enrolment, but these projects won't be completed until 2027 at the earliest.

According to RVS, many schools in the division have already reached the limit for modular classrooms.

The division is expecting a letter back from the province in the spring of 2025.
