Kolbie Parker tackles new role as forward, looks ahead to promising season with Klippers
Kolbie Parker, a talented and versatile hockey player, is making waves in the Saskatchewan Female Junior Hockey League (SJFHL) with the Western Prairie Junior Klippers. Known for her adaptability and passion for the sport, Kolbie has an extensive background in Saskatchewan hockey, starting her journey at age seven in Spiritwood and later playing in Debden and Battleford. Now, based in Saskatoon, where she studies interactive design and technology, Kolbie is taking on a new role on the ice that showcases her commitment to growth and adaptability.
Originally a defence player, Kolbie has stepped into the forward position for the Klippers this season—a transition she’s embracing with enthusiasm. “It’s a new challenge,” she said in an interview with Jenny Hagan for the Western Prairie Junior Klippers report. “I don’t mind it at all.” Kolbie’s shift to forward not only highlights her skill and flexibility but also shows her readiness to support the team in any way possible.
Reflecting on a recent game against the Saskatoon Blaze, one of the league’s top teams, Kolbie felt the Klippers held their ground impressively. “It was a 0-0 game going into the third period,” she explained. “We kept our own, and even though they scored an empty-netter to win 3-0, it was a great start to the season, especially against a tougher team.” Kolbie credits the team’s determination and the fresh energy brought by new players this season for their improved performance.
With upcoming back-to-back games against the Lumsden Links and Regina Rebels, Kolbie and the Klippers are ready to hit the ice with confidence. “We just have to keep trying hard,” she said. “We know they’ll be coming out strong to beat us, but we know we can hold our own.”
Beyond this season, Kolbie is especially excited about the growth of the SJFHL, seeing a promising future for young female hockey players. “I’m looking forward to how the league will progress,” Kolbie shared, adding that she hopes her younger sister might one day play in the league and even wear her jersey. “It’s amazing to see the talent developing, and I think the league will only get better.”
Looking forward to the Klippers’ season, Kolbie’s hopes are set on achieving more wins and advancing further in the playoffs, improving upon last year’s challenging season. “We’re heading in the right direction, and I hope we become more competitive in the league,” she said.
Kolbie Parker is a rising star in Saskatchewan’s junior hockey landscape, embodying dedication and resilience in her new role with the Klippers. As she sets her sights on a successful season, Kolbie’s adaptability and drive promise to make her a player to watch both this season and beyond.
