It was an extremely strong month for the City of Moose Jaw when it came to building permits issued in October.
The city issued a total of 20 permits with a total value of $4.3 million.
There were eight commercial building permits issued with a total value of $2.5 million. Leading the way was an alteration and improvements permit for a retail or wholesale outlet at 1251 Main St. N. The permit was issued on Oct. 9 with a project value of $1.7 million.
For residential properties, there were 12 permits issued worth $1.8 million.
Among these were three new developments valued at $1.56 million. This includes a two-unit dwelling at 1743 Hayes Lane, issued on October 15th and valued at $460,000. Additionally, a permit for a one-unit dwelling at 1721 Hayes Lane was issued, valued at $600,000. Another one-unit dwelling permit was issued on October 21st for 235 Iron Bridge Drive, valued at $500,000.
October also saw the issuance of one demolition permit.
Comparing year-over-year data, October 2023 saw the issuance of 15 permits, five fewer than this year, with a total value of $2.6 million, which is $1.7 million less than this year.
Year-to-date, the city has issued 40 more permits compared to last year, although the total value is $45.9 million less. Notably, the city has issued 19 more new dwelling permits in 2024 compared to 2023, with an increased value of $9.4 million.
