The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign is in need of volunteers.
Locations across the city will be participating in the annual campaign from Nov. 22 until Dec. 24 this year.
Major Byron Kean with the Salvation Army in Moose Jaw said that they’re aiming to have up to seven locations staffed this year, with confirmed participating businesses including the Moose Jaw Co-op, the Town N Country Mall, Safeway, Superstore, and Sobeys.
Volunteers are needed to cover 2-hour shifts, with plenty of different time slots for people to pick from. Kean said to call them at 306-692-5899 if you’re interested in donating your time. “We’ll certainly get them in on a shift at a location that they prefer and a date they prefer.”
Three of the kettle locations will have a ‘tap’ option for cards, though where those will be is yet to be determined. “Next year, we’re hoping to have ‘tip taps’ on all of the kettles,” said Kean.
Donations to the campaign help fund Christmas hampers for families in need during the holiday season, but Kean said donations spread beyond the holiday season, covering other programming during the year.
“It’s not just at Christmas – this is for the full year of activities to help those that are in a vulnerable situation and needing help at various times throughout the year.”
Kean added that all funds stay in Moose Jaw.
He expressed his appreciation for volunteers who donate their time to the campaign. “It is a testament to the community and the city that we live in, that they are so willing to give of their time and energy to provide a smile to somebody who’s willing to donate to our programs year-round.”
“Without their help, we would not be able to do what we do.”
