You can bring joy to a local family this Christmas by signing up for the Salvation Army’s ‘Adopt-A-Family' program.

Major Byron Kean with the Salvation Army in Moose Jaw said that organizations, businesses, or individuals can sponsor a family during the holiday season. “We get them to fill out a form – they indicate what size of family they want to help.”

“It goes from a large family, which is 4+ children, a mid-sized family up to 3 children, and a small family – a single parent with a child.”

Adopters are then paired with families, and purchase gifts or gift cards, which are delivered to the family by the Salvation Army. “We don’t give out names or information of the families because of privacy, but we do give them the situation and what’s needed for the family.”

Kean spoke about the benefit of adopting a family if you’re able to. “That gives people a sense of pride of knowing that they’ve helped somebody, but also the satisfaction of knowing that a family in need is being provided for at Christmas time.”

The deadline to apply to adopt a family is Dec. 6, and people can e-mail tammi.pinay-ross@salvationarmy.ca to get an application to adopt a family.

Kean said they’ll also be looking for help to deliver gifts and hampers to families from Dec. 16 through Dec.19.

To express your interest in volunteering to deliver, or if you’re wanting more information on adopting a family, you can call them at 306-692-5899.
