Kenora MP Eric Melillo is approving of the federal government's soon-to-be-implemented vaccine passport, which will be standardized across Canada.
“I think it’s a very positive step. I’m glad to see the government moving forward on this,” said Melillo, during an interview with KenoraOnline and the Q Morning Show earlier today.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau detailed the federal government’s vaccine passport yesterday afternoon, noting that the US land and sea borders will be open to fully vaccinated Canadians for non-essential reasons and travel as of November 8.
“Canada needs a country-wide proof of vaccination to make it easier for Canadians to travel abroad,” added Melillo. “So many countries and jurisdictions are requiring proof of vaccination to travel, so we need to ensure that all Canadians have a simple way to prove their vaccination status when necessary.”
The new vaccine certificates can be downloaded to a phone, can be printed or a physical copy can be mailed to you, and will allow border officials to verify if a traveller has the proper requirements to enter their country by reading the information or scanning the traveller's QR code.
However, the new proof of vaccination does not guarantee you entry to another country. Before you travel abroad, you must check the rules of the destination country you plan to visit. As well, you’ll also need to show your proof of vaccination when travelling in Canada by air, rail or cruise ship as of October 30.
